Got word of the news early this morning, and it came as a big shock and blow.
I remember that my first cassette tapes back when I was in primary school were Michael Jackson’s Bad, Thriller, and Dangerous albums.. I later got the CD version of Dangerous and even attended his Dangerous World tour in Singapore sometime back in the early mid 90s.
He was an idol at that time, but later in my 20s, Michael’s influence on me was tremendous. In his intricate music arrangements, his meticulous involvement in every album, his unique singing style and technique which I later went on to discover was Speech Level Singing (SLS). I searched high and low for a SLS teacher in the region, and later hit the jackpot with my then and still vocal coach.
He was someone I looked up to, regardless of how many scandals, no matter how many rumors. His work and dedication proved enough, and it is evident in the pop music culture for over 20 years.
Thriller revolutionized the Music Video genre, he revolutionized rhythm and blues as we know it today, dance choreography, usage of beat-boxing and unique instruments in musical arrangements, and many more.
I have since looked unto Michael’s music as a reference for music excellence.
Today, I feel as though the music industry and culture has suffered another blow with his death. How many artists today have accomplished half as much as Michael Jackson? Sadly, no one in the current generation of artists have achieved even close to his level of influence on the world.
I hope that his leaving will spark and motivate the present, and a new generation of talented people who will in time, leave a mark on the world we live in.
Rest in Peace Michael Jackson, I’m sad that you have left, but happy that you have finally found the peace that you’ve seeked all your life.

05 Aug 2009 14:30Hi there, I’m also an ardent fan of Michael Jackson. I also love his SLS technique. May i know who’s your SLS vocal teacher, his contact and how much does he charge? I’m very interested to take up a real-life lesson, as I’ve been using SInging Success SLS Vocal Program for quite some time.

I was taught by Daniel Singh, I don’t know how much he charges now, because I have stopped taking lessons ever since I left Singapore.
You may find his contact details at his website: http://www.danielstudios.com/

05 Feb 2010 14:40man.. I remember one of, if not the first cassette tapes I bought was MJ’s Dangerous … His music was so surreal then, and 20 years later still sounds freakin’ groundbreaking.
