It is customary for Chinese to eat dumplings on the last day of Chinese New Year, known as Yuan Xiao (元宵). Prior to today, I had known little about this custom, until my girlfriend insisted on buying a couple of packets of dumplings to celebrate the custom.
These are glutinous rice dumplings with red bean paste fillings and black sesame paste fillings. It’s been years since I’ve had dumplings, and they sure brought back memories of the days when my mum would announce that we would be having dumplings that day/evening.
Have you had your dumplings today?
