Last night’s Christmas dinner was a roaring success with my 2 house-mates. The missus unfortunately had to work, so couldn’t join us for the feast.
I made a huge rib-eye steak with a classic mushroom brown sauce cooked, laid on a bed of potato rosti accompanied with a simple side of salad. A clear vegetable soup was also prepared to help cleanse the palate.
The steaks were perfectly cooked, pink on the inside and crispy on the outside. Potato rosti was sweet and fragrant accompanied with the sauce which was slow simmered for 3 hours (Which according to Julia Child’s boook The Art of Mastering French Cooking, needs at least 2 hours for it to develop the taste).
The meal was absolutely delicious, and a Christmas to remember.
I got my cooking inspirations from a few people, 1 is a Singaporean food blogger called Chubbyhubby, who opened the door for me to culinary delicacy on his blog and was also very nice to me all the time, on one occasion even rewarding me a homemade tub of ice cream for a comment I left on his blog. I went down to the cute couple’s apartment to pick it up.
The other person is chef Gordon Ramsay, who not only entertained me with his various cook-shows, but also educated, inspired and motivated me.
Friends keep urging me to open a restaurant. At this rate, maybe that’s what I’ll do someday in my life.
