So, most of my time is spent working, sleeping, eating, music, gaming. Gaming has always been a huge part of my life, and still retains a significant fraction of my attention and time. In recent months, I have been playing the Mass Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMORPG), World of Warcraft. Unlike previous MMORPGs I’ve played, my guild in this one was 99% Singaporean, and there are over 40 of them. Naturally, over the past few months of battling together, doing things together, talking together, we’ve formed a natural bond with each other, like in army.
They know that I’m a musician & producer, and have been asking me to come up with a guild song for them. To be honest, I thought the idea to be ridiculous. How on earth was I supposed to write a song about a guild who battles giant dragons and demons on weekends?
Surprisingly, I was laying on bed one morning, trying to get out of bed. This bassline and melody suddenly sounded in my head, and kept repeating itself throughout the X minutes which i was lazing on bed. I hopped out of bed, fired up Cubase and very quickly recorded down the ideas that were in my head before i forget them.
It was crazy, I just suddenly had this insane urge to do a dancey electronica track, which I’ve ABSOLUTELY no hands on experience in doing before.
Anyway, I sat my ass down, organized all my ideas in my head together and made them happen one by one. The song was pieced together, and I arranged it exactly the way I had imagined it to be. The lyrics were the last, and hardest part. It’s really hard for me to write something in the gaming, inspiring battle context. I hope whatever i came up with was simple enough, but not too cheesey.
Oh, Black Rose is the name of my World of Warcraft guild. Black Rose @ Barthilas.
Black Rose
Lyrics/Music/Arrangement/Vocals: Fred
Chorus
Every single fight we do our part
Weapons in our hands, we slay the guards
Every single boss that blocks our paths
We will strike you down with fear in your hearts
Verse
I don’t care what is honor
I don’t know what is courage
All that I know is just to fight for what I love
A single rose… covered in black
We leave no tracks…
Repeat Chorus x 2
Repeat Verse
Repeat Chorus x 2

used for. Like it or not, since you wanna post your song up here, be prepare for comments. Besides, I even tell you
why I dislike. Take it or leave it.

25 Jan 2007 15:59Hi Clement, relax man.. you sound so hostile! Well the style that Black Rose was done is quite specific to a certain group of listeners, so I can understand that probably over half of music listeners wouldn’t like it.
To be perfectly honest, I never had any intention for the song to be used commercially when I did it. If you’ve read the song description, you’d realize that the song was more of a personal track in tribute to my gaming pals, and the entire song is very much like an experiment.
Thanks for commenting though! But seriously, lighten up man. This ain’t American Idol, and you sure as hell ain’t Simon Cowell.

I guess I am the other half of the listeners who like this track.

I find that comment really amusing coming from someone linked to http://www.jayplace.com .
